Manufacturing is a life-sustaining industry.  Many of us know South Central Pennsylvania as the snack capital of the world, but it’s also home to 2,986 diverse manufacturing establishments ranging from medical equipment, plastics and metal fabricators, textiles and pharmaceuticals.

Over the last two months many manufacturers have continued to provide needed components in supply chains. It’s satisfying to report that MANTEC continues to facilitate identifying new opportunities and make connections as many manufacturers needed to make rapid changes.

We deliver services throughout nine counties in South Central PA.  Amid the pandemic, MANTEC launched a new logo and website to reinforce the services provided to this critical industry for more than 30 years. The new tagline “Connecting Specialty Solutions for Manufacturing” clearly identifies MANTEC’s role and the resources provided.  Most services fit into the categories of Sales and Marketing, Process Improvement, Manufacturing Technology and Workforce Engagement.

John Lloyd, our President and CEO said MANTEC’s role is key: “Now more than ever MANTEC has an important role to play to assist our manufacturing clients position for success.”

As manufacturers look to meet training in new ways, MANTEC pivoted from offering in-person training and large group seminars like its SMART Manufacturing Conference to providing webinars on pressing topics such as “What Manufacturers can Do NOW to Position for Recovery”, “OSHA and Safety in a Post-COVID Workplace” and has scheduled “Cybersecurity- Be Concerned or Be Crushed” on May 21.

In the initial wake of PPE needs, MANTEC gathered a sizable list of manufacturers that were equipped to modify a process for PPE production.  This list provided value in working with the York County Economic Alliance and WellSpan.  It was then expanded to other healthcare systems.   In addition, the connections were made between manufacturers to ensure employee safety.  The Department of Community Economic Development started a portal in which MANTEC continues to connect with the local manufacturers.

While it is believed manufacturing relatively fared well through the last few months, there is growing concern that a decline will occur in the coming quarters.  If there is a drop off, I know that MANTEC is well positioned to help manufacturers recover from workforce and supply chain interruptions and provide resources at the federal, state and local level.

Since 1988, MANTEC’s team of specialty advisors has provided regional manufacturers with expertise in sales and marketing, process improvement, manufacturing technology, and workforce engagement to help them realize their full potential and grow.
