Maintaining Situational Awareness in the Face of Overwhelming Chaos with J.R. McGee, Founder, Managing Partner, and CEO of X-Stream Leadership

We live in a world that has experienced nothing BUT change since recorded history.  So why is today any different?  VELOCITY!

It took 5000 years for human knowledge to double the first time.  By 1900, it was doubling every 100 years.  By the end of World War II, it was doubling every 25 years. By the 1990’s, it was every 18 months.  NOW, because of the IoT (the Internet of Things), it is credibly estimated that knowledge is doubling every 12 hours.  This is a rate of change that is not only unprecedented, it is unmanageable.  The development of Artificial Intelligence only serves to further move us out of control and into greater chaos.

The key skill to maintain control in a world of extraordinary change is to maintain Situational Awareness.  We’ve all heard this term, but what does it mean?  REALLY?  How does one keep up when everything around you is changing at the speed of light?  How do we recognize and prioritize the right things and ignore the elements of chaos itself?

By learning how to discern what is critical, what is urgent, what is important, and lastly, what is nice to know.  Critical decisions are easy to recognize and easy to make.  The difficulty is in the difference between urgent and important.  It is so easy to get lost in the tyranny of the urgent and lose sight of what is truly important.

We are going to explore how to evaluate each of these types of events and then prioritize them into actionable items that we can influence and control.  The good news is that some tools and techniques can help us, and skills we can learn that keep the clutter of each day from obscuring the things that will make us a fortune…or bring us to ruin.  One thing I can promise…This session will not be boring!
