Revolutionizing Manufacturing with Dedication to Quality Control

Of all quality improvement methodologies, Six Sigma is arguably the one most geared toward the manufacturing industry. Born out of Bill Smith’s work at Motorola in the 1980s and adopted as Jack Welch’s central business strategy at General Electric in the mid-1990s, Six Sigma is first and foremost a manufacturing strategy that seeks to eliminate defects and unwanted variability in the output of manufacturing and business processes. The term “Six Sigma” takes its origins from statistical quality control, where a process that operates within Six Sigma parameters produces 3.4 defects or less per million repetitions or opportunities for deviation. Another way of interpreting a Six Sigma process is to say that it is 99.99 percent free of defects. Either way, if you want to improve your manufacturing and/or business processes, these numbers demonstrate the type of dedication to predictability and quality control the Six Sigma approach embodies.

Six Sigma: Well-Structured, Data-Driven Methodology

Ask any manufacturer if a program aimed at producing less waste while simultaneously reducing production times is a good idea, and you can already anticipate the overwhelmingly positive answer you’ll receive. What’s so important to understand is that the ability of Six Sigma to successfully deliver on its promise lies in its measurement-based, data-driven methodology.

Whether you’re looking to bring a process that currently falls below Six Sigma standards up to par or you’re interested in instituting a new process at a Six Sigma level of quality control, the program is adaptable enough to support either goal. Through Six Sigma methodology, you can assess an existing process using a DMAIC — define, measure, analyze, improve, control — approach in order to improve its results and meet Six Sigma standards. You can also employ a DMADV — define, measure, analyze, design, verify — approach in the implementation of a new process that’s intended to adhere to Six Sigma quality control. The performance and process improvements that can come from this consulting can save your business thousands over the course of just one year.

Highly Experienced Consultants

Cursory knowledge of Six Sigma alone can’t bring about the improvements and changes most SMB manufacturers seek. For actual results, you also need someone who’s both experienced at consulting in the manufacturing sector and highly skilled in the Six Sigma approach.
