Twenty schools in Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon and York counties are collaborating with regional manufacturing companies on a short video contest to answer the question, What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?

Contest organizer Leigh Ann Wilson, director of marketing and business development for MANTEC, said “the purpose is to get rid of myths about the ‘dark and dirty world of manufacturing.’” “I think that they believe manufacturing is very monotonous and they don’t understand what’s happening in a manufacturing environment — [manufacturing companies] need HR, they need an operator and they need technicians. There are more opportunities than they realize.”

The award ceremony will take place Feb. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Strand Theatre in York’s Appell Center for the Performing Arts. The public is welcome to vote online February 5-7 for the viewers’ choice award at www.mantec.org/vote
